First Day of Home school

This week we started homeschool.

Yes, homeschool.

I never thought those words would come out of my mouth!
I majored in elementary education when I was in college,
and just couldn’t understand why anyone would want their kids to be
weird.
Friendless.
Socially awkward.

So you can imagine that God has been working on my heart
majorly
to lead to me to change my mind
and my attitude.

But there are so many reasons why it’s a good choice for us:

*It gives my kids the freedom to spend more time with their
daddy on his day off, Friday.
*It gives us flexibility so I can still maintain my photography
and we can travel in the off-season.
*We get to have school outside whenever we want
or wherever we want, for that matter!
*It keeps my son from being labeled ADHD
which I’m sure is what would happen if he was sent to school.
*It makes me feel like my four and a half years of teaching college
were not a waste of my time, money, and energy.
*I get to help my kids find and explore their passions
rather than just shoving academia down their throats.
*My best friend has also chosen to home school her kids
so we have lots of love and support!
*We are free to keep the important things the important things in our curriculum.
*Fun Field trip Fridays!!
*Lots of great guest teachers like grandmas and aunties!
*Daddy gets to give his son homework! (a personal dream of his! ha!)
*I get to enjoy my precious children a little more while they are with me
for these few years of growing up…

I digress.
We are using a dual curriculum for our son this year.
Part “My Father’s World” Kindergarten curriculum.
Part Letter of the Week preschool curriculum.
Part “Let’s learn routines for our family’s sanity” curriculum. 🙂

The first week of home school went really well.
I still have some growth for keeping my 18 month old
busy with the “work” boxes I made up for her.
She either runs away to get into trouble
or wants to do everything her brother is doing
and thus distracts him.
We’re all learning here! 🙂

Without further adieu,
here are some pictures from Evan’s first day of school.
Love you, buddy!
I’m so proud of you!!
